In the winter of 2016 my partner and I spent 2 months in a tiny apartment in Shanghai wondering what we were going to do next with our lives. The sky was usually grey and lifeless, the air was cold and polluted, but we were happy on our steady diet of oatmeal, coffee, and cheap noodles from "Ye Olde Noodle Shop" down the road. We half-assedly searched for jobs, visited temples, played board games with locals and ex-pats, and lived life in a slower way than we were used to back home. I busked in the subway and in the park, and I played at every open mic I could find while writing songs and trying to forge a deeper relationship with my partner and my guitar. These two songs are the gems that came out of that time spent searching and experimenting. Like a February sky in Shanghai, the light's hard to find, but if you find it for even a moment, bask in it.
